While many churches scale back their children's programming during the summer, St. Peter's has kicked things up a notch – and there's no point in being sheepish about it.
"We're doing Sunday school every week this summer, and we're having a blast," says Alpha Pastor Karen Petkau. "The kids are having fun, and they're so engaged! They ask great questions, they pray for each other and they're excited to learn more about the love of Jesus."
Pastor Karen cooks up creative lessons and crafts that tie in with each week's Scripture readings, and she and volunteer Lincy Mathew guide them through prayer, story and activities that develop that week's key ideas and emphasize God's love for his children. Check out the photos above to see how the kids explored the July 21 theme, A Shepherd for the Sheep.
"We think it's important to offer children's ministry programs in July and August, because these are the months when people move into new cities and new neighbourhoods, and check out different churches," says Pastor Karen. "We want them to know that at St. Peter's, their children are important members of God's family, all year long."
Pastor Karen will continue hosting Sunday school in this format until the end of August – but after Labour Day, she'll take our children's activities to a new level, with the launch of a robust interactive program designed to grow our flock of little lambs even more. Stay tuned for updates, including the registration form and opportunities to get involved, in the weeks to come.
