With heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of Gerald Kendall on August 13, 2024.
Born in Saskatoon, Gerald was the youngest of three brothers born to WWI veteran Sydney Kendall and his wife Mabel. Gerald graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in geology. He married Yvonne, his wife of nearly seventy years, in 1954. Gerald and Yvonne raised a family of three sons.
Gerald enjoyed a long and successful career as an exploration geologist with Imperial Oil Ltd. He and his family lived in several communities across Western Canada. A highlight of his career was a posting to Exxon in Bogota, Colombia. Following retirement, Gerald was an active member of the Esso Annuitants Club, and especially enjoyed weekly hikes with friends to the Rocky Mountains.
Gerry developed a deep love for Calgary, his home for over 45 years. He was a strong supporter of the community, including many years as a volunteer with the Calgary Police Service. He and Yvonne were also active parishioners at St. Peter's Anglican Church, where they regularly participated in the 8 a.m. service.
Family was at the centre of Gerald's priorities throughout his life. He loved his contacts with his extended family in Canada and England. Gerald also greatly enjoyed sharing a laugh and a smile with friends old and new.
Gerald is survived by his sons Glenn (Linda) and Peter (Lynn) and by his much-loved grandson Chris. He was predeceased by his dear wife Yvonne in May 2024, and by his son Jeff in 2012.
Funeral Services for Gerald will take place at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Calgary on September 28, 2024 at 11 a.m. Gerald's ashes will be interred, along with those of Yvonne, at Eden Brook cemetery.
