If these three triads ring a bell for you, you've probably been to Cursillo. If they don't, maybe you should consider attending – and you'll get your chance in the next few weeks.
Cursillo is a movement of the church that aims to help people understand their individual callings to be Christian leaders, and it begins with a three-day worship-workshop weekend that's structured around a series of talks given by both clergy and laypeople. A Cursillo weekend is an excellent next step for those who have asked Christ into their lives and want to know, "OK, now what am I supposed to do?"
The Calgary Anglican Cursillo Movement hosts weekends in the spring and fall – the next men's weekend is October 31 to November 3 and the women's weekend is November 7 to 10. The weekends are held at Entheos – a retreat and conference centre just west of Calgary, and they begin Thursday evening and conclude Sunday afternoon. Weekends include lively discussion, lots of worship, fellowship and prayer, and Communion is celebrated each day. The cost is $325 – although cost should never be a deterrent.
If you've attended Cursillo in the past, is there someone God is calling you to sponsor to attend this fall? If you've never attended, is God calling you to give it a try this time? You're invited to pray and reflect on these questions in the coming days and weeks. Talk to Rev. Bonnie or Rev. Rob, or to Cheryl Herle – St. Peter's Cursillo Representative – if you have questions or concerns. You can also download the poster below, or visit the Cursillo website for more information.
The Cursillo weekend is only the beginning of the Cursillo journey. It continues throughout the year with a range of activities, one of which is a monthly gathering called an Ultreya – and St. Peter's is hosting the Ultreya in November! It's set for Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. in Cormack Hall. ACW will provide coffee and tea, but organizers will need some help with making of goodies for after the meeting – contact Cheryl if you can contribute.
"As it is right after two Cursillo weekends we should get a good crowd," says Cheryl. "We hope to see Cursillo members that have taken part in the past to rejoin us for a wonderful event and fellowship."
