They came, they saw, they sawed.
If ever you find yourself in the church parking lot and you hear the sound of chainsaws and laughter coming from behind the rectory, there's a good chance the St. Peter's Woodsmen are at work.
This informal team of parishioners gets together periodically when someone has a tree cut down in their yard. The woodsmen spring into action, and cut the tree into logs and haul it away. Then, after the wood has cured and dried, they sell it to grateful customers in our neighbourhood and beyond.
"Dave Cormack started by hand splitting wood for the fall fair, many years back, and it was continued by a group of the parish's men after the fall fair was shut down," says People's Warden Hal Anderson. "When we get an order, the wood is delivered, split and stacked for the customer. The money raised goes to the church – usually for projects such as the courtyard."
Sadly, the team doesn't currently don't have any split wood ready to go, as the logs they unloaded in the photo above are still too green to split. But Chief Woodsman Martin Cull will make an announcement when the firewood is ready and available.
Call Hal (403-251-3676) or Martin (403-281-4405) for more information.
In the meantime, we're confident that the Woodsmen will stay sharp.
